The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency (MLGCA) is currently seeking a highly qualified and experienced individual to join our team as an Administrator III, specifically serving as the Deputy Director of Sports Wagering Compliance. As one of the largest revenue sources for the State of Maryland, the MLGCA plays a crucial role in supporting vital state programs and services, including education, public health and safety, human resources, and the environment.

In this position, you will oversee the compliance aspects of the state's sports wagering program. Maryland has recently legalized sports betting, and as the Deputy Director of Sports Wagering Compliance, you will play a key role in ensuring that all operators and stakeholders adhere to the established regulations and guidelines. Your expertise and leadership will be instrumental in maintaining the integrity of sports wagering activities within the state.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic direction and guidance to the sports wagering compliance team, ensuring effective implementation and enforcement of regulations.
  • Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and controls related to sports wagering compliance, keeping them updated with evolving industry standards and best practices.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections of sports wagering operators to ensure their compliance with state laws, regulations, and licensing requirements.
  • Investigate complaints, violations, and potential fraud or misconduct related to sports wagering activities, taking appropriate enforcement actions when necessary.
  • Collaborate with other internal departments and external agencies to promote effective coordination and communication on sports wagering compliance matters.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, emerging technologies, and legal developments in sports wagering, contributing to the formulation of relevant policies and regulations.
  • Provide training and guidance to MLGCA staff, sports wagering operators, and other stakeholders on compliance requirements and procedures.
  • Represent the MLGCA in meetings, hearings, and public forums related to sports wagering compliance, acting as a knowledgeable and authoritative spokesperson.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as law, business administration, or public administration. A Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in regulatory compliance, preferably within the gaming or sports industry.
  • Strong knowledge of sports wagering laws, regulations, and industry practices, with a demonstrated ability to interpret and apply them effectively.
  • Excellent leadership and managerial skills, with a proven track record of leading a team and achieving results in a complex regulatory environment.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities, with a keen attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, building positive relationships and effectively collaborating with diverse stakeholders.
  • High ethical standards and integrity, with a commitment to upholding the principles of fairness, transparency, and accountability.
