Job Spotlight: Licensing Officer - Making a Difference in Torbay

Are you passionate about maintaining a harmonious environment for the community and ready to take on a challenging yet rewarding role? Look no further! Torbay Council is recruiting a dynamic and enthusiastic Licensing Officer to join their busy licensing team with a focus on public nuisance and noise complaints. As a key player in regulating various licensing regimes, this role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the well-being of Torbay residents and businesses.

The Role:

As a Licensing Officer, you will be responsible for overseeing public nuisance and noise complaints within Torbay. Reporting to the Regulatory Services Manager (Commercial), you will be the lead officer for Public Nuisance, ensuring compliance with licensing regulations and investigating noise complaints. Your role will also involve supporting other licensing areas, including Park Homes, Street Trading/Pavement Cafes, and Taxi Licensing, with training provided as necessary.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include managing your own caseload, conducting programmed and unannounced inspections and investigations, and determining appropriate enforcement actions. Flexibility is essential, as the role may require occasional travel within the local area and work outside regular office hours.

The Ideal Candidate:

To thrive in this role, you should possess excellent communication skills and be comfortable engaging with the public, elected officials, and other enforcement agencies. Candidates with a background in statutory nuisance investigations or experience in a regulatory environment will be given preference. Educational requirements include a degree-level qualification (including HND or equivalent) or relevant work experience in licensing/environmental health.

Benefits and Development Opportunities:

Torbay Council offers a comprehensive benefits package, which includes a minimum of 26 days of annual leave, additional bank holidays, and extra days based on years of service. The council is committed to promoting a healthy work-life balance, offering flexible working arrangements, a flexi-scheme, career break options, home and hybrid working, and flexible retirement.

As a progressive employer, Torbay Council places a strong emphasis on professional development. They provide a wide range of training courses to support career progression, and newly qualified applicants will be considered, as additional training can be provided. For Environmental Health Officers (EHOs), the council also offers support in obtaining the EHORB certificate.

A Caring and Supportive Work Environment:

Torbay Council takes pride in creating a caring and supportive work environment for its employees. They prioritize employee well-being and offer an employee assistance program with 24-hour access to well-being support and counseling. Additionally, employees have access to a range of family-friendly benefits, including flexible working options, childcare vouchers, paid maternity, adoption, and paternity leave schemes, and fertility treatment leave (where eligible).

The council's commitment to equality is evident through its equal opportunities policies, ensuring equal pay and opportunities for all. Employees also benefit from an employee reward scheme, providing exclusive access to local and national discounts.
